I wrote this so you would learn.  The Devil is the enemy.  The enemy is in active opposition to the will of God.  That means every breath you take, every moment of your life, there is a force ACTIVELY opposed to your growth towards perfection.  The Lord desires you to be perfect.  The Devil is counted a not quite timeless force against the growth
